This coin is the fourth in a Dolphin series of 1oz silver 'Hight Relief' $5 proof coins struck by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra.
The Dolphin is a beloved animal depicted in many cultures, and are also native to Australian waters. In various cultures, the Dolphin symbolizes happiness, power and protection.
The reverse design of the coin depicts the energy and athleticism of three Dusky Dolphins leaping from the water with a horizon and setting sun in the background. The design includes the inscription 'DUSKY DOLPHIN' and weight and purity of the coin. Struck in high relief in proof quality, the coin's reverse and obverse are minted on concave surfaces to ensure an optimum flow of metal is achieved by the strike of the die.
Limited to an issue of 1,000 proofs, each coin is housed encapsulated in a black leatherette, hinged-lid presentation case, accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and protected in a themed cardboard shipper. The Royal Australian Mint's on-line shop allocation sold out within 2 hours of the coin's release at 8:30am on 2 June 2022.
