Issued in May 2000 this coin is the second in a 28 Coin Sydney 2000 Aluminium Bronze Specimen Collection produced jointly by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra and the Perth Mint. The coin is presented sealed on a credit-card style pack.

Women's swimming events became a part of the Olympic Games in 1912 and the men's and women's programs involve four different strokes across a range of distances.
