By 1915 most countries involved in the First World War had come to the realisation that they would need increased funds to resource their campaigns. The British Government was feeling the financial burden and pressure of war and requested that the Australian Government finance its share of the war effort. The Australian Government subsequently decided it would raise loans from the public encouraging the population to purchase government War Loan Bonds which would be repaid with interest to contribute to the war effort. 

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver with a small mintage of only 5,000. Lightly toned coin

The coin’s reverse features a coloured representation of the World War I ‘Our daddy is fighting’ poster headed by the inscription AUSTRALIAN WAR BONDS.
