  • This coin was included as part of a Victoria Cross Centenary Framed Set to honour the 100th anniversary of the awarding of the first Victoria Cross to an Australian - Captain Neville Reginald Howse - on July 24 1900, during the South African Boer War. Howse's Victoria Cross is the only one awarded to a member of the Australian medical forces. His medal can be seen on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
