In 2026, the Royal Australian Mint celebrates the 60th anniversary of Australian decimal currency, marking six decades of innovation, design and national identity.

Australia’s changeover to decimal currency on 14 February 1966 was a defining moment, supported by a landmark public education campaign and enduring coin designs by Stuart Devlin. Since then, Australian circulating coins have evolved with the times — from the introduction of the iconic 12-sided 50-cent coin in 1969, to the $1 and $2 coins that followed, and the retirement of the 1c and 2c coins in 1992.
