The Royal Australian Mint has joined forces with the Australian Space Agency for the Out of this World – Australia in Space coin initiative. As a central force in Australia's space endeavors, the Agency collaborates across government, industry, and academia to bolster Australia's standing in the worldwide space industry. Australia boasts numerous strengths that position it as an ideal hub for space activities. These encompass a diverse array of fields such as positioning, navigation, timing, earth observation, as well as communications technologies and services, among others.

These coins were made available to the public at a number of pop-up stalls held on the RAM's road show throughout Australia. The 'Australia Map' counterstamp was applied using the Mint's mobile press. Each individual coin was accompanied by one of six different Out of This World Australians In Space, see-both-sides cardboard folders - Moon to Mars, Moon Landing, Australia's First Satellites, Amateur Astronomers, Australian Space Agency and Australian Astronauts. On the front of each cardboard folder, an 'Australia Map' in a white circle is printed in the lower left corner.
